Maharashtra Nagar Panchayat elections 2016 was held recently for seventeen Panchayats More than 280 seats were contested in the polls conducted in the senventeen Nagar Panchayats. All the major four parties BJP,Congress, Shiv sena & NCP led by Sharad Pawar contested in the Maharashtra Nagar Panchayat Elections 2016. Out of seventeen Nagar Panchayats , seven Nagar Panchayats won by Congress party with remarkable comeback absolute lead. No other party could form a majority in the remaining 10 panchayats.


Out of the total 280 seats of Maharasthra Nagar Panchayat 2016 the following is the list won by various parties


Congress 107 seats


NCP led by Sharad Pawar 58 seats


Shiv sena 55 seats


BJP 24 seats


All the four major parties entered into the Maharashtra Nagar Panchayat 2016 polls independently rather than entering into pre-election alliances. The results comes as a major break through for Congress, The oldest party went into the elections is a good indication for congress party members. This time veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Sri Ashok Chavan lead the role in elections


The results also indicate the rejection of BJP by rural electorates of the state. The debacle of BJP also hints that the ‘Modi magic’ now ceases to work in favour of the saffron party.
